ACT UP! The 4-Pack
Wednesdays Jan 14- March 4 6:30-8:30 p.m.
Tom Bradshaw: Intro to Acting
You will learn and employ the 7 questions every actor should ask before walking on stage or in front of the camera. Acting is more than learning your lines and knowing where to stand on stage. As a class we will explore the creative inside yourself by learning from some of the best. From Stanislavsky to Hagen, you will learn the method and madness of the great acting teachers of our craft.
Erin Vanderweg: Devised Theatre
You might not be familiar with the term “Devised Theatre”. To me, it simply means theatre you make yourself, without a published play telling you what story to tell. In our time together, we’ll gather some inspiration from the world around us, from the room, and from ourselves, then learn how to turn that inspiration into storytelling moments using your voice, body, and imagination. You’ll discover how theatre can grow out of anything, and how even simple moments can be to tell a powerful story.
Tanya Ryga: Contact, Connection & Text
We will explore fun and challenging exercises to help open actors to their authentic selves and discover vitally real moments with their acting partners. Once that contact and connection is made, more fun! as we take those first steps and apply it to script.
Starlise Waschuk: Presence & Movement
Over our two classes, I’ll be sharing my passion for this craft and helping you reconnect to your natural presence (second circle)—being truly in the moment with your breath, voice, and the text. We’ll look at how everyday habits or experiences can pull us out of that presence, and how tuning into your body, mind, spirit, and breath can bring you back to your storytelling power. I will teach you how to work with fear and vulnerability, and rediscover your birthright to breathe, speak, and simply be. I’ll also share a movement practice that opens up new and playful ways to create character.
